The President of the Economic and Social Council Prof. Lalko Dulevski participated in a public debate on the topic “Two years after Lisbon-Europe which way now?” which took place in the plenary hall of the National Assembly.

“The recession, this is killing the hope of millions of young educated people to find work and to have a decent life in the old continent. Europe still does not provide an adequate answer and a message to the young people in regards to their future and practical realization, and this means lack of future for Europe.”

This was what Prof. Dulevski stated from the parliamentary tribune and greeted the organisers of the initiative.

The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov: “I believe in the future that the ESC will contribute to a new comprehension of the mechanisms of coordination, dialogue and transparency in Bulgaria.”

On 10 December 2011 the Economic and Social Council /ESC/ of Bulgaria marked its 8th anniversary since establishment under the heading of “8 years European model of civil dialogue in Bulgaria”.

Official guest of the anniversary was the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Georgi Parvanov. In Sofia, the event was attended by all the European Economic and Social Committee /EESC/ Presidents during the period 2002-2008, the current EESC President Mr. Staffan Nilsson as well as the Presidents of the three Committee groups - Mr. Henri Malosse, Mr. George Dassis and Mr. Luca Jahier. The guests were more than 200 among which were representatives of the main institutions in the country who have been involved in the ESC activities over the years, ministers, Mps, MEPs, representatives of NGOs and academics.

The Economic and Social Council of Bulgaria will celebrate its 8th anniversary on 10 December 2011 /Saturday/ at 10.00 a.m, Hall 6, National Palace of Culture, Sofia under the heading of “8 years European model of civil dialogue in Bulgaria”.

On 10 December 2003, Bulgaria became the first country among the twelve new Member States of the European Union to establish an Economic and Social Council following the model of the European Economic and Social Committee /EESC/.

Bulgaria and its Economic and Social Council received a high praise of the EESC proven by the fact that the event will be attended by all the EESC Presidents during the period 2002-2008, the current EESC President Mr. Staffan Nilsson as well as the Presidents of the three Committee groups - Mr. Henri Malosse /President of Employer’s Group/, Mr. George Dassis /President of Worker’s Group/ and Mr. Luca Jahier /President of Various Interests’ Group/.

At the celebration the EESC Presidents will be conferred with the Honorary Award of the Economic and Social Council for Contribution to the Development of Organised Civil Society in Bulgaria.

MISSION

“THE CIVIL PARLIAMENT” OF BULGARIA

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
