THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION: WE HIGHLY APPRECIATE THE RESOLUTION OF THE BULGARIAN ESC ON THE GREEN DEAL

We highly appreciate the resolution "The European Green Deal - Economic, Social and Environmental Challenges and Possible Solutions for Bulgaria" adopted by the Bulgarian ESC as a profound and significant contribution to the development of the European Green Deal, Mauro Petriccione, Director-General for Climate Action of the European Commission, wrote in a letter to the ESC President - Prof. Dulevski.

Mauro Petriccione's response to the resolution on the Green Deal sent to him by ESC confirms that achieving the EU's climate-neutral goals by 2050 is a priority for the EC. In this respect, the Director-General for Climate Action finds the support of the Bulgarian ESC as timely and important in the process of building the Next Generation Europe, as offering ways for faster recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic and targeting fairer solutions on the road to a carbon-free industry.

On behalf of the European Commission, Director-General Mauro Petriccione calls on the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council to participate even more actively in the European legislative process related to the Green Deal.

The ESC resolution expresses both principled support for the Green Deal and some reservations regarding the accelerated transition to a low-carbon economy and, in particular, regarding the deadlines for transformation. Bulgaria is a country that will be seriously affected and it is important to protect its national interests, the resolution said. That is why the Bulgarian ESC urges Europe to create a social pact for the transition to climate-neutral policy in order to overcome inequalities and energy poverty, to improve the quality of life of citizens and to create new jobs.

Director-General Mauro Petriccione assures ESC that his directorate will mediate in the exchange of ideas and proposals between the European institutions that develop plans, programmes and initiatives on the Green Deal and organised civil society.

MISSION

“THE CIVIL PARLIAMENT” OF BULGARIA

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
