INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

PARTICIPATION IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCILS AND SIMILAR INSTITUTIONS

Representatives of the Economic and Social Council participated in the General Assembly of International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions held on 6-7 July in New York, the USA. The meeting was attended by about 50 Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions - AICESIS members from Europe, America, Africa and Asia, as well as several international organisations.

The meeting were discussed and adopted an Activity Report of the Association in 2009, its development plan to 2013 and a financial report. The General Assembly was informed about  the condition of the AICESIS partner relations with the international organizations such as  UNDESA, ILO, OECD and ECOSOK, as well as for the participation and speeches of the Association representatives in the Beijing +15 conference. Also the work plan to support the establishment of new Economic and Social Councils in the world was presented. The General Assembly adopted the Public Council of Armenia, the Economic and Social Council of Burundi, the Economic and Social Council of Mauritania and the Economic and Social Council of Suriname as AICESIS members.


Within the agenda the General Assembly was informed about the Millennium Award winners and the success of the International Summer School in Holland, held on 16-22 August 2009.

MISSION

“THE CIVIL PARLIAMENT” OF BULGARIA

is the “bridge” between citizens and the national government. Its mission is to support such “bridging” so as to facilitate the communication between the society and the national government. It is the new and modern institution of the civil dialogue.

The ESC's mission is to promote civil society organisations access to and involvement in the process of decision-making on strategic economic and social issues.

The main goal of ESC's operation is to enable different representatives of organised civil society to feel free to state their views whereas unanimity on matters of common interest is encouraged. The Council expresses and protects civil society interests by communicating agreed statements and proposals submitted by its members to the executive and legislative authorities.
